Sending Postcards

We switched up our poetry tea time and wrote postcards instead.

In the past my oldest daughter worked to collect postcards from each of the 50 states and then went onto collecting postcards from other countries. This was a great way for her to get some practical writing practice. The internet sites we used are listed in this post - Encouraging Writing through Postcard Exchange.

This time we wrote postcards to learn about formatting addresses, learn about proper letter/postcard punctuation and send a friendly note to a few people we haven't seen in a while.

To help the kids, an example showing what should be included on the back of a postcard was drawn on the whiteboard.

This activity was a fun and easy break for my 12 year old.

The younger two learned a lot. I'm hoping they will get some responses and want to send out more postcards in the future.

Check out these great blog hops. They are filled with activity ideas for kids.

  1. If you would like a postcard from Maryland or Delaware, just let me know by sending me your address. I would be glad to help.

  2. I didn't know about the postcard exchange - what a good idea, thank you.
