In the story Miss Mouse planted a few too many seeds and her garden grew out of control. So her friends came over to help with the harvest and make a big salad. All three of my children have declared this book a favorite around the age of five.
There are many plant parts that we eat; Roots, stems, flowers, leaves and seeds. Since we read this book in May when the rhubarb and asparagus were ripe, I wanted to talk about eating stems. Asparagus, broccoli, celery, and rhubarb all have eatable stems.
