How Nanita Learned to Make Flan

Nanita lives in Mexico where her father makes shoes. One day she decides to make her own and gets into trouble. During her journey far from home she learns to make Flan. How Nanita Learned To Make Flan was a favorite picture book of all three of my children and we couldn't resist the urge to make flan.

Flan is an egg rich Mexican desert with a bit of sugar and orange juice.

To make flan the eggs need to be beaten.

Cooking sugar in water was interesting to watch as it went through different stages. - science!

Ten More Strokes - To make the best flan, Nanita learns to beat the eggs until her arm is tired and she can't beat them any more. Then she must give them exactly 10 more strokes.

Flan is baked in the oven until the eggs are set.

The recipe is included in the book. I see more flan in our future. All the kids liked it.

  1. I've heard of Flan but never what the ingredients are. We might have to try that at our house. Thanks for sharing!
