Human Body Unit - Fingerprints

We explored our fingerprints by enlarging and coloring them.

Three main patterns of fingerprints dominate our fingers. There are whorls, loops and arches. Loops are the most common and four out of the five in our family have loops.

While visiting a friend I noticed large fingerprints her kids had colored with oil pastels. That experience coupled with the fingerprint activity I read about on The Art Club Blog inspired this activity.

First we enlarged a thumb print from each child by scanning it into the computer. This turned out to be difficult because the fingerprints were not always clear. We tried several times and went with the best image.
Next the kids chose how they wanted to decorate their prints.

 My youngest used glitter glue.

 My oldest used markers.

And my son chose crayons.
